What the eye can’t see.

Performance, defined.

Biometrek is an applied biomechanics service for professional quarterbacks and pitchers. We measure the throwing motion in our mobile lab using 3D motion capture and ball tracking, then turn the data into a clear picture of how the throw really works and where the opportunities are.

One throw from a Biometrek capture: the skeleton is what the eye sees, the numbers are what the measurement sees.

Film shows you what happened. We define how.

Film shows what happened on the play. Biometrek measures how it happened: the order the body moved in, the timing, the alignment, what the arm had to do to produce the ball.

Then we sit down together and work out why, and where the opportunities are.

There is no one way to throw.

At Biometrek we don’t believe there is one way to throw a football. There are thousands. What we do believe is that there is one efficient way for each quarterback to throw, and it depends on what his body is physically able to do.

That is why every assessment is read against what the athlete’s body can do, and why the numbers are read against the athlete in front of us, not against a model.

Efficiency has three parts.

Consistency

Can I repeat it?

Does the throwing motion repeat, throw after throw, with very little variance?

Command

Can I command it?

Is the ball out on time, at the right speed, on the right trajectory, to the right spot on the field?

Power

How do I create it?

Does the velocity come with the least effort: the body moving in order, the arm doing its share and no more?

Deep, not wide.

Biometrek works with a short list of athletes and measures them thoroughly and regularly. Each quarterback is captured in the lab, read against his own earlier sessions, and followed through the season game by game.

We would rather know one quarterback’s throwing motion completely than a hundred quarterbacks’ throws at a glance.

Two reports. One picture of the throw.

Three scores from a Biometrek assessment report: consistency, command and power, each with its contributing measures. The kinematic sequence chart from the same report: pelvis, trunk, elbow and shoulder speed curves firing in order between foot strike and release.
From a sample assessment report. The quarterback shown is fictitious.

The lab assessment

The QB Insights Report. One capture session, read from the ground up. The three scores are the summary. Underneath them the report works through the ball — velocity, trajectory, spin and where every throw landed — and then the body: how the feet and body were aligned to the target, the timing from setup to release, the order the pelvis, trunk and arm fired in, and what the throw asked of the shoulder, elbow and low back.

Every throw has its video beside its numbers, the throws the quarterback asked about get their own page, each session is read against the ones before it, and the opportunities are written in plain language.

A pass chart from a game report: every throw of the game plotted on the field by where it landed, with the selected throw's ball line in white and the quarterback's stride line in red. The timing bar for the selected throw: drop 2.23 seconds, hold 0.73, motion 0.32, release at 3.28 seconds after the snap, with the game's middle throw shown faintly beneath for comparison.

The in-season game report

The Game Insights Report. Every throw from the game, marked by hand and timed from the snap to the plant to the release, matched to the league’s ball-tracking data where the team provides it, and compared with the same throws from the lab. Delivered each week through the season.

Reports are delivered as private web pages with the video built in, so a quarterback can open one on his phone and watch the throw next to the numbers.

The same measurement, applied to the pitching delivery.

The lab comes to the pitcher. We measure the whole delivery and the ball it produces, not the ball alone.

Pitching at Biometrek

Focused work. Selective relationships.

Biometrek works with professional athletes and professional teams who value detailed analysis, discretion and individual attention.

The practice is kept small on purpose, so every athlete gets the full depth of the work. If that is what you are looking for, get in touch.
